Description
Appearance:
- Elongated, slender body reaching up to 11 inches (28 cm) in length
- Translucent body with a brown or green tinge
- Black stripe running along the midline
- Large, sucker-like mouth for scraping algae
- Forked caudal fin
Behavior:
- Territorial as adults: Become aggressive towards other fish, especially of the same species.
- Nocturnal: More active at night.
- Bottom feeders: Spend most of their time searching for algae on rocks and plants.
- Can be shy: Hide behind rocks and plants during the day.
Care requirements:
- Established freshwater aquarium (minimum 30 gallons for a single adult)
- Stable water parameters:
- Temperature: 72-82°F (22-28°C)
- pH: 6.0-7.5
- Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water
